MARLBORO – For more than a decade, the Pink Ribbons of the Marlboro Greens adult community, Route 9, has done its part to fight breast cancer.

The Pink Ribbons traces its roots to 2005 when a group of Marlboro Greens residents discussed the ways in which their community could better serve people in need. After much deliberation, the residents agreed to look into organizations whose mission focuses on the research and treatment of breast cancer.

The group’s representatives contacted the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Lawrenceville and expressed interest in forming an independent organization that would benefit the foundation. Since 2007, according to the group, the Pink Ribbons of Marlboro has donated $145,700 to Susan G. Komen of Central and South Jersey.

Pink Ribbons of Marlboro Greens participates in other fundraising activities, including the Walk for the Cure and holiday book wrapping at Barnes and Noble.

Pink Ribbons will host a card party and canasta tournament at 1 p.m. April 12 at the Marlboro Greens clubhouse. Tickets are $15 per person and there will be about a dozen tables of four or five people. Brunch will be served. Rhoda Stamler is chairing the card party. For more information, call 732-617-1510.

Pink Ribbons will hold its annual luncheon on June 8 at the Encore in Freehold. There is a $50 donation to attend. Checks may be mailed to Elaine Robins, 121 Sunnymede Street, Englishtown, NJ 07726. A table of 10 people can be reserved upon request. All proceeds from the luncheon will go to the Susan G. Komen of Central and South Jersey Affiliate. Elaine Robins and Mollie Zuckerman are co-chairing the event. For more information, call 732-536-0231.
