RED BANK — Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, has audience-engagement activities for its upcoming production of Shakespeare’s “Pericles,” which will be performed in the Rechnitz Theater at 21 Bridge Ave. from April 16-May 8 under the direction of David Schweizer.
Shakespeare’s epic tale of adventure and romance will be set at a dive bar at the end of the world and feature a full score of original music and lyrics by multidisciplinary artist Rinde Eckert, who will also perform as Gower/Old Pericles.
All are invited to the following events. At 7 p.m. March 23, audiences are invited to watch an open rehearsal of “Pericles” in the Rechnitz Theater.
At 5:30 p.m. April 24, the Two River Book Club will discuss Paolo Coelho’s “The Alchemist,” a rare mixture of a quest novel, philosophy text and spiritual guide. In conjunction with “Pericles,” the book club will discuss literary journeys and how far a person has to go to discover oneself. The discussion will follow the 3 p.m. performance of “Pericles.” This event is free and open to the public.
At 6:30 p.m. April 28, guest speaker Sue Starke, Ph.D., associate professor of English at Monmouth University, will present “Adventure and Growth in Shakespeare’s ‘Pericles’” as part of the Conversation and Play salon series curated by The Navesink (producers of the TEDxNavesink conference) and Two River Theater.
