The Nina Et cetera Band will perform a tribute to country-music pioneer Maybelle Carter 2:30 p.m. March 12 at the Old Bridge Public Library, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.
The performance, presented to mark Women’s History Month, is part of the library’s Second Saturday series of free concerts.
The band features acoustic guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Nina performing with a bass guitarist and, occasionally, one or two percussionists. She and her band offer an eclectic mix of folk, country and rock.
Maybelle Carter was a member of the original Carter Family, a band which was formed in 1927 and became one of the first commercial rural country-music groups. Known as “Mother Maybelle,” she played autoharp, banjo and guitar, the instrument on which she created an innovative “scratch” style of playing.
