EDISON — Police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred in the parking lot of the Menlo Park Mall near the Fox & Hound sports bar in the early morning hours of March 2.
Police Lt. Sal Filannino said a 22-year-old Carteret man was in stable condition at a local hospital after he was stabbed twice in the upper torso. Police described the weapon that was used to stab the man as a pocket knife type weapon.
Officers were dispatched to the area near the sports bar at about 2:12 a.m.
The victim of the stabbing told responding officers that he was at his vehicle, and as he started to walk toward a small group of friends, he looked back at his vehicle and saw several people near it.
Filaninno said an altercation followed and the victim was allegedly stabbed by another male. The man who allegedly committed the stabbing was described as a thin black male, between 5-feet, 7-inches and 5-feet, 10-inches tall, and weighing between about 120 and 130 pounds. The suspect fled in an unknown vehicle along Route 1 northbound.
Police officers recovered the knife at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ted Hamer at 732-248-7540 and 732-248-7544.
