Comedy show will boost runner’s cause

On March 19 at the Hightstown Fire Company banquet hall in Hightstown, Roosevelt resident and New Jersey 101.5 radio personality Steve Trevelise and comedians Jimmy Graham and Chris Johnston will perform a special comedy show to help Ellen Rothfus, another Roosevelt resident, reach her goal of raising $10,000 as a charity runner in the Boston Marathon for Casa Myrna Vasquez, one of New England’s leading women’s domestic violence and dating violence organizations.

There will be prizes to bid on from the Hightstown Diner, Perennial Home, Origins, Princeton Pacers Running, Eva Nails Studio, The Paper Source, West Elm and Carter and Cavero Olive Oil Company. Auction items will include gift certificates, hair products, jewelry, home goods, beauty products and one-of-a-kind craft items.

Tickets are $20 and can be obtained by contacting Jane Rothfuss at 609-448-3713, Ellen Rothfuss at [email protected], or reserving them through 1-732-SARCASM. Food, drinks and prizes will be available for additional donations. The show is recommended for individuals 18 years old and over, according to a press release.

Trevelise, who owned and operated Sarcasm Comedy Club at Tavern On The Lake, Hightstown, has been performing for 16 years. He has opened for Pat Cooper, Robert Klein, Gilbert Gottfried and the late Richard Jeni.

Graham headlines comedy clubs and casinos from Atlantic City to Las Vegas and stars in his own Internet sitcom “Graham’s Crackers.” Johnston has toured with the “Howard Stern – Killers of Comedy” and “Best Damn Comedy” show tours.

Organizers of the event thanked Tim Curry, a fireman with the Roosevelt Fire Company and the Hightstown Fire Company, who donated his annual opportunity to use the fire company’s banquet hall for the show.

Rothfuss has raised more than $4,000 so far through online donations from family members, friends and current and former Roosevelt residents, two babysitting nights at the Roosevelt Public School, and bagel and grilled cheese sandwich sales, according to the press release. Future fundraising projects will include a music night with donated food to be held at Emerson College in Boston and Casa Myrna T-shirt sales.
