HIPHOP plans 5K race on April 16

For more than 20 years, a student-run organization called HIPHOP at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School has worked to reduce health disparities through educational programs and community outreach. The students in HIPHOP, who include medical students, physician assistant students and public health students, participate in more than 30 outreach projects in central New Jersey that focus on health maintenance and disease prevention.

In support of HIPHOP’s Promise Clinic, a student-run clinic that provides free medical services to guests of Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen, the students are hosting the 17th annual 5K Fun Run/Walk on April 16 at Johnson Park in Piscataway.

The 5K Fun/Run Walk is a flat, fast course that starts and finishes near the Animal Haven, following paved roadways near the Raritan River. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; the race will begin at 10 a.m.

On or before April 7, the entry fee is $20 per participant or $15 per person on a team of five or more. The entry fee is $25 thereafter. The first 75 runners or walkers will receive a t-shirt.
