The East Brunswick High School (EBHS) Bears and Cubs Preschool program is accepting applications for enrollment. Parents may obtain an application at www.ebnet.org/preschool; in the main office at EBHS, 380 Cranbury Road; and at the receptionist’s desk at the East Brunswick Public Schools administration building, 760 Route 18.
Free of charge to East Brunswick residents, the Bears and Cubs Preschool is an elective for high school juniors and seniors interested in a career in education. In the double period, full-year course, high school students learn, plan, teach and observe 3- to 5-year-old children in a laboratory preschool setting.
Prior to the preschoolers’ arrival, the high school students learn about child development, teaching methods, observational techniques and routines that are needed to work with preschool-age children. The students then observe, plan and teach the preschoolers under the supervision of their high school teachers. The program operates 8-10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The following criteria are required to apply: the child must be 3 years old as of Oct. 31, 2016, and no older than 4 years, 8 months; child must be toilet-trained; parent or guardian must be an East Brunswick resident; child must be transported to and from the school; child must be up to date with all immunizations.
Applications must be returned by May 13. Notification of acceptance will be sent to parents in mid-June. The first day of school will be in mid-October. Start date is to be determined.
