Panel to discuss local, statewide water-supply issues

The Monmouth County League of Women Voters is sponsoring the public forum “Drinking Water: At What Cost? Is Our Water Supply at Risk?” from 7-9 p.m. April 13 at Brookdale Community College’s Student Life Center, Navesink Rooms 1 and 2, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. This is a free event.

Co-sponsors include the Brookdale Community College Department of Political Science, History and Political Science Club, Students for Global Citizenship, Environmental Club, Clearwater, United Methodist Church of Red Bank, NY/NJ Baykeeper, WaterSpirit and Clean Ocean Action.

Panel experts will discuss how watersheds function, what is required to protect them, the need for infrastructure upgrades and critical water-supply issues facing Monmouth County and New Jersey as a whole.

Panelists will include Fred Sickels, former director of the Division of Water Supply and Geoscience at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Carleton Montgomery, executive director of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, and Dan Van Abs, formerly of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and New Jersey Water Supply Authority and now an associate professor at Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.
