It’s championship weekend for the best high school wrestling teams. The weekend begins on Feb. 12 with the NJSIAA team state sectional championship finals.
In Central Jersey, Group V, top-seeded Howell goes for its second title in the last three years and will serve as the host to third-seeded Old Bridge.
Central Jersey, Group IV has Shore Conference powers going at it with the No. 1 seed and the defending champion, Jackson Memorial, home to the No. 2 seed, Long Branch.
Raritan is the No. 2 seed in Central Jersey, Group and will wrestle at top-seeded Delaware Valley in Alexandria.
Second-seeded Middletown North goes for the North Jersey, Section II, Group IV title at top-seeded Phillipsburg. The Lions are seeking their first sectional championship in 20 years but, will be put to the test wrestling at Phillipsburg’s famed “Pit.”
Christian Brothers Academy, the No. 1 seed in South Jersey, Non-Public A, goes after its third championship of the year against No. 2 seed St. Augustine Prep in Lincroft.
The Colts previously won the Shore Conference A North Division (tri-champions) and Shore Conference Tournament titles.
The sectional champions will travel to the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River for the Group championships on Feb. 14.
The NJSIAA sectional indoor track and field championships conclude this weekend at the busy Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River.
On Feb. 12 Central Jersey, Groups I and IV hold their championships, and on Feb. 13, South Jersey, Groups I and IV are up.
At Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, the NJSIAA Girls Team Bowling Tournament finals will be held on Feb. 12.
On Feb. 13, the Central Jersey Boys Bowling Championships are Feb. 13. The qualifying teams will compete for the overall team state championship on Feb. 17.
The Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division girls’ basketball title is on the line on Feb. 11 when East Brunswick travels to South Brunswick. If East Brunswick wins, the Bears are the out-right division champion while a South Brunswick victory will create a three-tie for first place with East Brunswick and Piscataway.
Seeding for the upcoming GMC Tournament is also at stake.
At the Prime Time Shootout at Roselle Catholic, the Shore Conference’s newest boys basketball power, Mater Dei Prep, will tip off against Notre Dame in a clash of state-ranked teams on Feb. 12.
