Exhibit will highlight African-Amer. history

The Barron Arts Center will present “African Americans — Who We Are, Where We’ve Been and Where We Are Going,” a historical exhibit curated and arranged by the Independent Club of Colonia (ICC). The exhibit will be on display at the Barron Arts Center from Feb. 16-26.

A reception for the show, featuring light refreshments, will be held Feb. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibit will provide an in-depth look at the African-American experience during the “Great Migration,” a significant 20th-century event wherein millions of African-Americans moved out of the rural American South to a new life in the North and Western United States.

The show will also honor notable African-American scholars of the time, as well as present contemporary responses.

The Barron Arts Center is located at 582 Rahway Ave. in Woodbridge. Gallery hours when exhibiting are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

The exhibit is sponsored by the Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission, chaired by Dolores Capraro Gioffre, with support from Mayor John E. McCormac.
