Healthy Kids Day slated at two Community YMCA locations

SHREWSBURY — The Community YMCA will host Healthy Kids Day at two of their facilities April 30. The event is free and will encourage children to keep their minds and bodies active now and through the summer.

Families are invited to play games, exercise, dabble in arts and crafts, sample healthy snacks, view nutritional displays and discover that fun and fitness go together. Parents and guardians will also get plenty of great ideas for activities to keep kids active during the summer, a time when children are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically.

Healthy Kids Day will take place from 1-3 p.m. at the Family Health & Wellness Center, 166 Maple Ave., Red Bank. Featured activities include a basketball contest, a family fitness class and games led by local Boy and Girl Scouts.

The other location includes Camp Zehnder at 3911 Herbertsville Road, Wall. Activities will take place from 9 a.m.-noon and include a walking tour of the 140-acre camp and opportunities to help prepare camp gardens and take home vegetable and herb plantings. Teens interested in summer employment are also invited to attend.
