EAST BRUNSWICK – The Township of East Brunswick will celebrate its designation as a “Tree City USA” for 2016 with a ceremony on April 29.
The Tree City USA honor comes from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Communities entering the program are recommended by state foresters and qualify if they have a city tree ordinance, a legal tree governing body, a comprehensive urban forestry program and an observance of Arbor Day.
East Brunswick is receiving the honor for the 38th time.
Steve Gottlieb of the Environmental Commission will present a flag and plaque to Business Administrator Jack Layne at 1:30 p.m. on April 29 at Chittick Elementary School, 5 Flagler St. Students will provide entertainment, and 500 seedlings will be distributed with planting instructions.
In addition, the East Brunswick Woman’s Club and Stop and Shop of East Brunswick will donate a tree each to be planted at Heavenly Farms.
