George Street Playhouse to offer summer theater camps

George Street Playhouse’s Summer Theatre Academy will take place July 5-29 for budding thespians of any experience level in ages 5-18.

Class hours at the New Brunswick theatre are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, with early drop-off and late pick-up available.

Song as Stories for ages 5-8 explores how songs tell stories. Students will play games, create characters and learn the basics of musical theatre July 5-15.

Inspired by a classic children’s story, students age 9-12 in the Junior Company will learn the foundations of theatre by creating an original story, developing characters and participating in the design process in either two- or four-week programs.

Rising M Company: Musical Theatre explores musical theatre through the rehearsal and performance of a popular musical from July 5-29.

Rising Company: Play Production teaches students the foundations of acting through improvisation, character development and collaborative activities from July 18-29.

Guided by professional directors, playwrights and designers, Young Company members will have the opportunity to learn the foundations of acting and theatrical production by creating an original play July 5-15.

Young M Company students create, rehearse and perform an original play with music. Starting with source material, Young M Company works with professional playwrights, composers and choreographers to develop characters, write songs and stage the action. Young M Company runs July 5-29.

At the end of each camp, the students will perform on the mainstage of the George Street Playhouse, 9 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick.
