HELMETTA — The Borough Council has a new councilwoman.

Noreen Carolan was appointed at a meeting on April 28 to serve out the rest of Brian Hackett’s term ending on Dec. 31. He sent in his resignation notice on April 11.

Hackett, who was appointed to fill Councilwoman Yvette Bruno’s seat in December 2015, said he began a new job as the New Jersey state director for the Humane Society of the United States and due to his federal status, he is technically prohibited from continuing to serve as a council member.

He said in his letter to the council that he will still be strongly involved in the town as a private citizen.

Carolan told the council she has lived in the borough for three years.

“I love the town and it’s where my heart is,” she said, noting that she and her husband raised a combined 10 children.
