Bicycle Rodeo, Public-Safety Day set in S.R.

The South River Police Department will sponsor its annual free Bicycle Rodeo and Public-Safety Day beginning at 9 a.m. June 4 at South River High School, Montgomery Street.

Representatives from the South River Fire Department, South River Rescue Squad and Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T.) will display their specialized equipment. Guests may also have the chance to see the teams in action during demonstrations. The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department will conduct its Fingerprint and File program. A visit from the New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR helicopter is scheduled. Planet Bike of East Brunswick will provide free bicycle inspections.

Residents are invited to ask questions, see the emergency vehicles and emergency-equipment displays and meet public-safety officials. The event also will feature free food, drinks, a bicycle raffle, entertainment and a bicycle-helmet giveaway. Admission is free of charge.

The South River Municipal Alliance will be on hand to sell tickets for its Somerset Patriots baseball fundraiser. Tickets cost $10 each and are redeemable for any 2016 home game.

Demonstrations may include the use of simulated effects such as loud noises and smoke. Announcements will be made prior to these demonstrations.
