Rabid groundhog found in South Brunswick

 

 

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A groundhog submitted for testing for rabies from South Brunswick tested positive.

The groundhog was found in the Brunswick Acres Development in the area of Vincent Avenue in Kendall Park. On June 28, the South Brunswick Health Department was notified by the New Jersey State Health Department, according to a statement prepared by the South Brunswick Police Department.

The Health Department reminds all residents to vaccinate all pets against rabies and keep vaccinations current, to never feed or touch wild animals, to avoid contact with stray pets, to contact the Health Department if a pet comes in contact with a wild animal, and to report unusual behavior of stray or wild animals to South Brunswick Animal Control.

Immediately report any bite from wildlife as well from domestic pets to the South Brunswick Health Department at 732-329-4000, ext. 7237 during business hours or to the South Brunswick Police at 732-329-4646 on nights, weekends and holidays.
