Health, wellness series scheduled at library

The Old Bridge Public Library will sponsor several upcoming health and wellness programs at the library main branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

A free six-week workshop series titled “Diabetes Self-Management” is scheduled for 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 2-Sept. 6. The sessions will provide information on how to manage symptoms, communicate effectively with physicians, maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen and manage fear and anger issues. The course is offered through the Middlesex County Office of Health Services. Registration is required by calling the library at 732-721-5600, ext. 5033, or logging on to www.oldbridgelibrary.org. Participants must attend all six classes to complete the program successfully.

“Stress Management for Successful Living” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 11. Dr. Ken Freedman, founder of Freedman Chiropractic Center, East Brunswick, will discuss the three general types of stress and provide tips on how individuals can safeguard themselves to function better in today’s stressful world.

A “Solutions to Sugar Cravings” seminar is planned for 7 p.m. Aug. 25. Topics will include the reasons sugar cravings occur at certain times, tips on how to stop the cravings, getting cravings under control, how and what to eat, and how one’s frame of mind helps determine how food is processed in the body. The program will be presented by personal trainer and nutritionist Francesca Locicero.
