On July 15, the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) and New Jersey Business magazine presented the 2016 New Good Neighbor Award to Parker at Monroe, a long-term care community with 96 residents, located on Schoolhouse Road in Monroe Township. The awards salute firms that have contributed to the economic value of their communities by constructing new buildings or investing in structural improvement projects. An independent panel of judges evaluated three key criteria to determine the winners of this year’s nominees: economic benefit and job creation, architectural merit, and community involvement. Parker at Monroe was one of 12 winners who were honored at a reception at the Pines Manor in Edison.
The $32.25 million Parker at Monroe complex is not a traditional nursing home; it consists of six “small homes” of 16 residents each, which are connected to a community center. There are two small homes that cater to residents with early to mid-stage dementias, three small homes for residents with mid- to late-stage dementias, and one small home for people who are cognitively well but live with physical challenges. The complex was designed by Spiezle Architectural Group in Trenton and was constructed by Irwin and Leighton Commercial Builders, located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
An additional consideration that secured the award for Parker is the creation of 200 job opportunities in the township, including nurses, CNAs, dining services employees, personal trainers, social workers, and therapists. Parker enjoys one of the highest retention rates in the healthcare industry due to a positive work environment, an impressive company culture, ongoing training, and a generous benefits package.
Parker also participates in and hosts numerous community events, including health and wellness fairs, and educational programs for residents and industry professionals. Parker at Monroe is a sponsor of the Monroe Township Senior Center’s Thanksgiving celebration, exhibits at the township’s Green Fair, and hosts events for many local organizations, including the Visiting Nurse Association and Jewish Family Services.
