Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County will hold a “Build a Rain Barrel” Workshop from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Ocean County Extension Center, 1623 Whitesville Rd., Toms River. Registration is required by Sept. 16. Space is limited.
Participants will build their own rain barrel to take home and learn how to install it. A rain barrel fills with water from the roof and holds about 50 gallons of water, which can be used to water the yard and gardens. Rain barrels can help save money on your water bill, prevent basement flooding and reduce flooding in local rivers and streams.
The workshop fee is $45 per barrel and it covers the cost for the barrel itself and all hardware for making the rain barrel. Barrels are 34″ tall and 25″ wide and can be placed lying down in the back seat of most vehicles to be transported home.
