Robert “Bob” Zagata, 69, died suddenly at his home on Aug. 23. Born in Perth Amboy, on June 28, 1947, he resided in Easton, Pa., since 2006, where he lived with Mary Zagata, devoted wife and best friend of 20 years. He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and lived many years in the central New Jersey area.
Before his retirement, he was employed at New England Motor Freight in Lehighton, Pa., as a tractor trailer mechanic. In his spare time, Bob loved projects involving woodworking. He built many treasured pieces for his family as well as restored old items to like new condition. He also enjoyed taking care of the lawn and landscape, proud of his lush, green lawn and always willing to share his green thumb with others.
Son of Julia Zagata of Sayreville, and the late Samuel Zagata, Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Zagata of Easton, Pa.; son, Robert Zagata, and his wife, Isabel Jimenez, of Somerset, daughter, Tracy Zagata, and grandsons, Andrew and Benjamin Vroeginday, of Southington, Conn; stepdaughter, Shelly Cadmus, husband, Glenn, and step-grandsons, Connor and Tate, of Forks Twp., Pa.; stepdaughter, Wendy Poth, husband, Ron, and step-grandsons, Eli and Eric, of Brown City, Mi. He is also survived by brother, Samuel Zagata, and his wife, Carol, of Sterling Heights, Mi.; and sister, Sharon Palermo, and her husband, John, of Morgan, N.J., as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held.
