On Aug. 20 at Gateway Park on Howard Avenue in Edison, about 40 members of Boy Scout Troop 12 assisted Life Scout Robert Heintjes (picture above in the yellow shirt) in the completion of his Eagle project. Park restoration included replacing the fencing on the baseball field backstop, cleaning up the jungle gym, repainting the park sign, and general debris removal. The job was completed by day’s end.
“It was a good experience,” said Heintjes. “Definitely difficult, but in the end it was worth it.”
Heintjes is a senior at Edison High School. During his time as a Boy Scout in Troop 12, he has trekked the Adirondacks, hiked the Appalachian trail, led his patrol on a camping trip in Washington, D.C., and attended the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.
