School is fully in session and the athletic schedules are filled with games and events. Here are some matchups that contain importance this early in the fall season.
The Sayreville and Edison football teams, which scored impressive victories the opening weekend of the season, collide on Sept.16 in Edison. One of them will go to 2-0.
It’s been a long time since a Freehold Township football team started a season 2-0, but that’s what the Patriots can be if they can win at Colts Neck on Sept. 17
Jackson Memorial and Brick Township have been traded victories and championships the last couple of years and they renew their rivalry on Sept. 16 in Brick.
Last year, Brick beat Jackson Memorial during the regular season on the way to the A South Division title. However, Jackson Memorial had the final say when it defeated the Green Dragons on the way to winning the state sectional playoff championship.
Red Bank Catholic doesn’t want to go 0-2 out the gate, so to avoid that start, the Caseys will have to get by a very good Middletown North squad (1-0) in Middletown on Sept. 16.
Greater Middlesex Conference boys’ soccer powers, East Brunswick and South Brunswick, play an important early-season match on South Brunswick’s home pitch in Monmouth Junction of Sept. 17.
On Sept. 19, Christian Brothers Academy, the overall Shore Conference A North Division boys’ soccer champion from 2015, is home to last year’s division public school champion, Freehold Township, in an important early-season league game.
On Sept. 17, Freehold Township’s girls’ soccer team travels to Wall High School for a non-division match that could be a Shore Conference Tournament prelude.
Two non-public girls’ soccer powers are playing in Holmdel on Sept. 17 when Red Bank Catholic visits its arch rival, St. John Vianney.
In cross-country, Lakewood’s Ocean County Park is the venue for the Battle at Ocean County Park Class Meet on Sept. 16.
Oeaan County Park is the site of next month’s Shore Conference Championship meet.
On Sept. 17, Thompson Park in Jamesburg is home to the Thompson Park Class Meet.
The Greater Middlesex Conference and NJSIAA Central Jersey cross-country championship races are held at the park and this meet serves as a trial run for the harriers.
