Shanti (Peace) Lecture set for Oct. 9

The Monmouth Center for World Religions and Ethical Thought (MCWRET) will sponsor its 17th annual Shanti (Peace) Lecture from 3-4:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 1475 W. Front St., Lincroft.

This year’s theme is “Begampura: City Without Sorrow”. A Sikh perspective will be shared by Mr. Harinder Singh on how to achieve lasting peace on planet Earth. It will be based on hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh scriptural canon. The objective is to raise the agenda on interfaith dialogue by focusing on real issues facing the world community in the spiritual, economic and political arenas. Practical recommendations will be presented to help us “live in harmony in a world of difference.”

Mr. Singh co-founded the Sikh Research Institute and Panjab Digital Library and has served on the boards of the National Conference on Community and Justice; the Fellowship of Activists to Embrace Humanity among others. He is an author and public speaker who regularly appears on radio and television programs globally. He holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, M.S. in Engineering Management, and M. Phil. in Guru Granth Sahib.

The public is welcome to attend. After the lecture and dialogue, light refreshments will be served. Admission is free; a basket will be available for donations.
