Library to take part in Indie Author Day

The Old Bridge Public Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road, will join libraries across North America in hosting events for the first Indie Author Day Oct. 8. After several hours of local events, the library will livestream a 2 p.m. national panel designed to offer inspiration, information and advice for authors from publishing-industry specialists.

The library events schedule is as follows:

• 11 a.m.-noon — “Indie Children’s Authors Read Their Books,” featuring Rachelle Burk, author of “Treehouse in the Storm” and “Don’t Turn the Page,” and Jo Ann Kairys, author of “I Want Cake” and “Sunbelievable”;

• 11 a.m.-2 p.m. — “Author Alley,” featuring one-on-one meetings with local authors (whose books will be available for onsite purchase), questions about the writing and publishing process and tips on how to get started;

• 11 a.m.-noon — Old Bridge author John J. Schaffer’s presentation about his experiences becoming a writer and publishing his first novel, “A Northern Rebel,” followed by an audience question-and-answer session and book signing;

• 2 p.m. — Indie Author Day virtual panel, featuring a YouTube livestream presentation and questions and answers with publishing-industry executives Robin Cutter, Jon Fine, Kiera Parrott, L. Penelope and Jim Blanton.
