Special guest will be New York Times bestselling comic-book writer Fred Van Lente, who has written “Archer & Armstrong” (Harvey Award nominee, Best Series), “Action Philosophers!” (American Library Association Best Graphic Novel for Teens) and “Cowboys & Aliens” (with Andrew Foley), the basis for the 2011 feature film. His titles also include “Resurrectionists,” “The Incredible Hercules” (with Greg Pak), “Taskmaster,” “Marvel Zombies” and “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Other guests will include LEGO master builder Amado Canlas Pinlac, indie game developer David Rin and writer/editor Deanna Destito.

Van Lente will lead a presentation based on his graphic novel “The Comic Book History of Comics” at 1 p.m. Following the discussion, he will sign his book and other comics. Copies will be available for purchase.

There are several activities planned throughout the day, including a Harry Potter trivia contest, video games, table-top gaming, cosplay and “geek crafting.”
