Attempted kidnapping of woman reported at Metuchen office

METUCHEN — Police are looking for a man who reportedly attempted to kidnap a 45-year-old Branchburg woman as she was leaving an office building on Durham Avenue last week.

“We received a 911 call from the woman, who was screaming and panicking,” said Metuchen Patrolman David Liantonio.

The victim told police that she was leaving the office building at around 2:56 p.m. on Feb. 25 when the suspect — described as a 6- foot-2-inch-tall black male wearing a black and red bandanna covering his nose and mouth — grabbed her by the jacket and asked her to keep quiet.

“This all occurred inside the office building,” Liantonio said.

The victim told police that the suspect dragged her outside the building, where she was able to drop out of her jacket onto the floor. She then ran back inside the building.

“This is when the people in the office building heard her and came and stayed with her,” said Liantonio.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction. Police said officers canvassed the area with negative results.

Liantonio said Metuchen police are treating the case as a possible abduction and asked that anyone with information contact the Detective Bureau at 732-632-8501.
