Linda (Yee) Chu, 54, of East Brunswick, passed away on Dec. 12, 2016.
Linda was born on Dec. 13, 1962, in Malden, Massachusetts, to Fee and Mei (Quon) Yee. She was a devoted wife of Richard Chu; loving mother of Kenneth and Carolyn; cherished daughter of Fee and Mei (Quon) Yee; and dear sister of Lester Yee and Jeanne Yee MacNevin.
Linda graduated as a valedictorian from Malden High School in 1981; earned a B.S. degree with a double major in biology and chemical engineering at Tufts University; a master’s degree in biotechnology from Cornell University; and an MBA degree from Rutgers University.
She had a passion for helping others and spent her entire career in the science and cancer research fields, working first at Johnson & Johnson and then most recently as a senior manager at Bristol-Myers Squibb where she contributed to the development of Opdivo, a new immunotherapy cancer drug. With the FDA’s approval of Opdivo to treat lung cancer last year, she was overjoyed to have fulfilled a promise to help cure cancer that she made 31 years ago to a childhood friend’s mother dying of lung cancer.
Services were arranged by Ng Fook Funeral Services, 36 Mulberry St., New York City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Institute, which supports the development of immunotherapy cancer treatments, at www.cancerresearch.org/giving-to-cri/honor-memorial-giving.
