Man charged with attacking woman, leaving her in Edison

EDISON – An Elizabeth man has been charged with beating a 30-year-old Newark woman and leaving her for dead in Edison earlier this year.

Mickey Vanderpool, 61, of Elizabeth, was charged on Dec. 23 with attempted murder, kidnapping and endangering an injured victim, according to a statement provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Thomas J. Bryan of the Edison Police Department.

Bail for Vanderpool had not been set as of press time.

The case is being investigated by Detective Joseph Kenney of the Edison Police Department and Sgt. Wayne Canastra of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

During the investigation, it was determined that Vanderpool reportedly met the woman in Newark and allegedly beat her sometime in June. The investigation showed Vanderpool allegedly repeatedly struck the woman about the head and body and abandoned her at Raritan Center in Edison, leaving her for dead.

After a day or more, the woman wandered around the industrial complex before she saw a utility worker and asked for help, according to officials. Police were called to the scene.

The woman was taken to JFK Medical Center in Edison, where she was treated and released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Kenney at 732-248-7400 or Canastra at 732-745-4312.
