Marlboro council ready for new year

MARLBORO – Councilman Jeff Cantor will serve as president of the Township Council during 2017. He was elected to the position by his fellow council members when Marlboro’s governing body held its reorganization meeting on Jan. 5.

Mayor Jonathan Hornik administered the oath of office to Cantor.

“I am honored to be selected as council president for 2017,” Cantor said. “I am humbled by the overwhelming support of my fellow council members who unanimously cast their vote in my favor.

“I am looking forward to working with Mayor Hornik to work on ways we can improve our already good governance in our town. I stand committed to helping our residents with any issues they may have. After all, this job is about leading, which includes leading the way to help the people in our tight-knit community,” he said.

Councilwoman Randi Marder was sworn in by Hornik to serve her second consecutive year as council vice president.

During the reorganization meeting, the council members:

  • Appointed Michael Dupont and Raymond Raya as public defenders
  • Appointed Pasquale Menna as municipal prosecutor
  • Appointed Councilwoman Carol Mazzola to the Planning Board
  • Appointed Michael Shapiro and Alon Salon to four-year terms on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and Martin Powers to a two-year term as an alternate on the zoning board
  • Appointed Louis Rainone of Rainone Coughlin Minchello, LLC, as township attorney
  • Appointed CME Associates as township engineer and township planner.

The Marlboro Township Council will meet on Jan. 19, Feb. 2, Feb. 16, March 2, March 16, April 20, May 4, May 18, June 15, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 7, Oct. 5, Oct. 19, Nov. 2, Nov. 30 and Dec. 14. All of the meetings will be held at Town Hall at 7 p.m. unless advertised otherwise.
