Freshman forward Stephanie Karcz, a former star at Middletown High School South, scored a career-high 20 points as the Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball team picked up a 75-47 win over Lafayette College at the annual Women In Sports Day event Jan. 28 at Reitz Arena.
With the win, the Greyhounds swept the Leopards this season and improved to 9-11 overall and 5-4 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette fell to 1-20 overall and 0-9 in conference play.
The Greyhounds raced out to a 23-8 lead behind 10 points in the first quarter from Karcz, marking the fourth straight game and 10th this season in which the rookie guard has reached double figures in scoring. Lafayette closed out the frame with five unanswered points, though, bringing the Leopards within nine, 23-14, at the end of the quarter before Loyola gradually pulled away from there.
Karcz averages 9.3 points on 44-percent shooting and 6.2 rebounds. She has 34 assists and 49 steals.
