EAST BRUNSWICK – A 60-year-old woman was fatally injured in a fire at her home last week.
Tracy Baran of 16 Nelson Circle in East Brunswick was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, which was reported to authorities at 4:39 a.m. on Feb. 17, according to a statement prepared by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief James Conroy of the East Brunswick Police Department (EBPD).
An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the statement.
Firefighters were dispatched to the single-family home to battle the blaze, which caused extensive damage. The cause of the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the details remain under investigation, according to officials.
Among those called to the scene were the East Brunswick Fire Department, the East Brunswick Fire Prevention Bureau, the East Brunswick Police Department, the Middlesex County Office of the Fire Marshal and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO). No firefighters or police officers were injured.
