MILLSTONE – The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders has taken action to expand Perrineville Lake Park in Millstone Township and neighboring Roosevelt.
At their meeting on Feb. 23, the freeholders passed a pair of resolutions that will result in the county purchasing two small parcels of land and adding them to the 1,168-acre park that lies in both municipalities.
The freeholders voted to acquire the 4.5-acre Dexheimer property off Route 571 near Nurko Road in Roosevelt for $270,000, and the 1-acre Manzo Business Ventures LLC property on Pine Hill Road in Millstone Township for $6,000.
The funds for the purchase of both properties will come fro the Monmouth County Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund, according to the resolutions. In both cases, the Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners recommended that the freeholders purchase the two properties.
Perrineville Lake Park has a lake which may be accessed on Perrineville Road/Sweetman’s Lane (881 Perrineville Road, between Agress and Millstone roads). Watercraft can be launched into the lake and visitors may canoe, kayak and fish (car top, electric powered boats only), according to information posted on a county website.
