MARLBORO – A slate of Republicans will seek to unseat a trio of incumbent Democrats from their positions on the Marlboro Township Council in the Nov. 7 election. Three four-year terms will be on the ballot.

According to the township clerk’s office, Democrats Jeff Cantor, Carol Mazzola and Scott Metzger filed nominating petitions to seek re-election. Republicans Donald McCarthy, Derek DeLuca and Patricia Branch will face off against them.

Cantor has served on the council since 2006 and currently serves as the council president. Mazzola and Metzger have served on the council since 2009.

“I am not familiar with the people running for council on the Republican ballot, nevertheless, I wish them well and I commend all people for stepping up to want to make a difference in their local government,” Cantor said. “Although I don’t know them, I cordially invite them to attend a council meeting so they can introduce themselves and I will make myself available to answer any questions they may have about our municipal government.”

The other candidates were not immediately available for comment.
