Model Train & Toy Expo on way to Metuchen

METUCHEN — The Model Train & Toy Expo will make its debut Oct. 26 at St. Joseph High School, 145 Plainfield Road.

The expo, which runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature a guest presentation, “Questions on Model Railroading,” at 11 a.m. by Frank Duke, and an outdoor train ride, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can view numerous operating layouts, get spare parts for vintage and newer train models, visit the train doctor for repairs or purchase new boxed sets of the “Polar Express.”

Classic Toy Trains magazine has donated numerous other prizes, including magazine subscriptions and train-related introductory booklet giveaways.

Other highlights include Greenberg Book Store, as well as several club layouts with multiple train gauges, along with tables of toy trains in every gauge. Door prize drawings will be announced every hour, and a Thomas the Tank Engine train set will be given to one winner at 2:30 p.m. (winner need not be present).

Attendees can also view huge train layouts operated by members of Jersey Central N-Trak club, the Independent HiRailers and the Staten Island Society of Model Railroaders, as well as chat with scenic specialists, and learn about wiring techniques and the art of displaying a beautiful landscape filled with farm and mountain scenes.

Tickets for the show are $7 for adults; children under 10 are admitted free with a parent. For more information, call 201-327-5254 or 732-845-5966.
