EDISON — The Middlesex County College (MCC) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, was recently recognized at the organization’s regional convention held in Galloway.
Named a Five-Star Chapter for the first time since 2009, MCC also received a Hall of Gold Chapter Award, which recognizes a Five-Star Chapter that had a membership increase of 5 percent or more over the previous year.
In addition, several individual members received awards. Former Co-President Yana Burlachka of Old Bridge, who graduated in January, and Co-President Ronald Rubanick of Woodbridge won Hall of Honor Chapter Officer Awards. Rubanick also won a Distinguished Chapter Officer Award, and Christopher Witte of South River received a Hall of Honor Chapter Member award.
“This is a tribute to the entire chapter,” said chapter advisor Kathleen Pearle, who is also chair of the Department of History and Social Science. “It’s a terrific group of students with wonderful leaders. They’ve shown their mettle, and I’m very proud of them and their accomplishments.”
