Two basketball courts at Bodman Park in Middletown have been resurfaced and are ready for play.
The two 12X12 outdoor courts now have a low-glare blue and green tile pattern, courtesy of Matéflex, according to a press release from the Township of Middletown.
According to the release, Matéflex is the oldest U.S. modular tile manufacturer. The court is maintenance-friendly if a tile needs to be replaced. The floor is made of extremely strong and durable plastic tiles and were developed to enhance the performance of athletes, which is also known to be better at injury prevention.
The project was done using the Township of Middletown’s 2016 capital improvement budget. According to the release, Middletown officials opted to install state-of-the-art court flooring instead of traditional resurfacing because of its durability, affordability, and low maintenance.
Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger liked the safety and usage of the court’s surface.
“We’re excited to be able to bring top-of-the-line sports flooring to Bodman Park, and continue to upgrade our facilities throughout Middletown,” Scharfenberger said. “These interlocking tiles are safer than traditional surfaces and fast-drying, so players can use the courts shortly after a rainfall and not have to worry about sliding.”
Scharfenberger and Township Administrator Anthony Mercantante also reported that the courts were just the first step in a process to improve other Middletown recreation facilities.
“Pickleball has become increasingly popular in Middletown, and we have received numerous requests for pickleball courts from our residents,” Mercantante said. “We have heard their wishes and are happy to look to provide these facilities for our community.”
