HOWELL – That was quick.
Members of the Howell K-8 School District Board of Education who appointed Shawn Levinson as vice principal/supervisor at the Griebling School effective July 27 rescinded the action on Aug. 9 and named Betty Ferrigno to the position.
Administrators said Levinson left the district for another opportunity.
Ferrigno has been employed in Howell for 15 years. For the past three years she was a literacy coach at the Land O’ Pines School. Prior to that she was the lead teacher at the Newbury School.
“This (new position) means I just take my role in a greater capacity, supporting our teachers, learning from each other and pushing forward,” Ferrigno said.

In other business at the Aug. 9 meeting, board President Tim O’Brien said the panel will conduct a retreat on Aug. 26.
O’Brien said he is excited about the opportunity “to discuss policy and talk about the condition of the district. We work collaboratively with our administrative leadership and we come to recognize what is truly important for all of us to focus on. Each retreat has been exceptional and we are looking forward to this one.”
Members of the public are invited to attend the Aug. 26 retreat, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southard Community Enrichment Center, 115 Kent Road, Howell.
“We have a lot of good ideas to talk about and discuss because we are going to be starting a strategic plan for the next five-year cycle. That plan is the foundation for everything we do here as a board,” O’Brien said.
