Hillsdale Road to be closed for several months

COLTS NECK – Hillsdale Road, over Big Brook, will be closed to traffic for about seven months. The road was expected to be closed on or about Dec. 4, according to a press release from Monmouth County.

Weather permitting, a construction project is expected to be completed by the end of June.

“Due to the significant deterioration of the wooden substructure, the bridge needs to be replaced,” said Monmouth County Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The goal is to improve the overall safety of the traveling public in the area.”

Hillsdale Road will be closed at the bridge to all traffic for the duration of the project. Hillsdale Road runs between Clover Hill Road and Crine Road in Colts Neck.

Attempts will be made to maintain access to the Big Brook Preserve throughout construction, however, individuals should be aware that construction activities may restrict or relocate available parking and access to the trails of the preserve. Signs will be posted advising of any impacts to parking or trail access, according to the press release.

Motorists are asked to follow posted detour routes which will direct traffic along Crine Road, Boundary Road and Clover Hill Road.

“Motorists should expect travel delays in the area throughout the bridge reconstruction project,” Arnone said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during the duration of this necessary project.”

The work is being performed by Montana Construction of Lodi. The estimated cost of construction is $1,531,201, according to the press release.
