Holmdel High School students can pump and lift more iron thanks to the generosity of a Holmdel resident.
Sabrina Corliss was determined to clear out weight equipment and free weights from her home and fund the perfect recipient.
“I decided to donate the weight equipment because no one in my house was using it and I wanted to create a more functional space for my family,” Corliss said. “I had heard that the Holmdel schools had hired a new strength coach from Dr. Robert McGarry so I thought that there would be no better place to donate the equipment than to my schools.”
The Holmdel Board of Education accepted Corliss’s donation for the school’s weight room and all of the equipment was picked by the school two weeks ago, according to Corliss.
Corliss said the equipment she donated was worth an estimated $750.
“Mrs. Corliss reached out to the Holmdel School District about donating some weight equipment to the high school. Upon checking our inventory, we found that the near-new equipment she was donating would be a benefit to our students when they were working out in our Strength and Conditioning Center,” Supervisor of Athletics Shane Fallon said. “This equipment, which consisted of a weight bench, barbells, dumbbells, kettle bells, weights and a stand, were all in excellent condition and helped replenish our inventory.”
Corliss has a son who is a freshman at the Marine Academy of Science and Technology in Highlands, who was in the Holmdel school system from first to eighth grade. She also has a daughter in the fifth grade at the Indian Hill Elementary School in Holmdel.
“I’m very happy to be able to have donated this equipment to Holmdel High School. I feel good knowing the high school students can use this equipment to train and possibly help them be the best they can in the sports they have chosen to play,” Corliss said. “Exercise and sports are very important to me and my family. We all felt the weight equipment would be a great addition to Holmdel High School.”
“We are so grateful to the Corliss family for this donation, as the equipment is being utilized five days a week by our students in physical education and after school,” Fallon said.
