The Jamesburg Public Library will hold a new English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) program from Feb. 1 to March 8 and again from April 12 to May 17. Attendees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the library, 229 Gatzmer Ave.

All languages and skill levels are welcome. Residents of any town may join.

The style of the program is educational and instructional, including one-on-one tutoring.

The East Brunswick Library will hold a Medicare workshop at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the library, Civic Center Drive.

Mike Salum of Senior Advisors will discuss the five most common mistakes people make on Medicare. Topics include how supplement policies work, the difference between plans and some of the proposed changes to Medicare in the future.

The Suburban Artist Guild (SAG) will hold its next monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the East Brunswick Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, near Ryders Lane.

Registered nurse Kathleen Iannuzzo from Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick will speak about fall prevention. Iannuzzo is nationally certified in gerontology and will discuss senior health promotion and disease prevention.

The annual South River Police Department Basketball Free Throw Tournament will take place at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 in the South River Middle School gymnasium, 3 Montgomery St.

All South River children from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three winners in each of the six age groups. The overall champion will receive a brand new Playstation 4.

Refreshments will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting South River High School’s Project Graduation.

Waivers must be completed by the participant’s parent/guardian and submitted no later than Feb. 22. Waivers will be sent home with students. Additional waivers can be obtained at the main office of each school or at South River Police Headquarters, 61 Main St. Waivers will also be available at the door from 9-10 a.m. for walk-in participants; however, a parent/guardian must be present to sign.

All participants must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

American Legion Post 253 will host international medium Dolores Rilho with “Messages From Heaven” from 4-7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the legion, 50 Devoe Ave., Spotswood.

The Churchill Junior High School Drama Club will present “Anne Frank & Me” at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 and 23 at the school, 18 Norton Road, East Brunswick.

A hip hop dancing teenager in the 1980s gets transported to the 1940s and lives like Anne Frank in World War II.

Students are performing, running the lights, sound and creating the production in honor of those who suffered in the Holocaust and those who still suffer the atrocities of genocide today.

Tickets are $10 for adults, or $8 for students, seniors and staff.

The Displaced Homemakers Network of NJ and the Monroe Public Library will host a screening of the documentary “Equal Means Equal” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at the library, 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.

The film discusses life stories and legal cases based on sexual harassment, domestic violence and the foster care system.

All are welcome to attend this event, which also features a panel discussion after the film.

The Spotswood Education Foundation will host a casino fundraiser from 6-11 p.m. March 3 at the Helmetta Community Center, 1 Brookside Pl., Helmetta, to support grants for the Spotswood education system.
Price is $50 per person and includes dinner catered by David Ellis Caterers, desserts and assorted beverages. Must be 21 to attend.

Each ticket receives $100 in “play” money.

Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $78,000 in grants to teachers in the Spotswood Public Schools, which educates children from Helmetta and Milltown.

A limited number of plots are available for rent at the East Brunswick Community Garden for the 2018 growing season.

Located next to the Municipal Complex on Rues Lane, the garden has 10 x 10-foot plots available to new gardeners on a first-come, first-served basis.

The $45 cost for the season includes a temporary assessment to fund the addition of wooden borders around each plot. Gardeners must be township residents or employed in the township.
