FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – An ordinance that established the salary ranges of municipal employees and elected officials in Freehold Township for 2018 has been amended by the Township Committee.
Officials took the action on Jan. 30 after adopting the ordinance in December. The figures represent the range for a position and not the exact salary that an individual who currently holds a position is paid.
Amendments were made to the salaries of Freehold Township Police Department employees and to the salaries of elected officials.
In the police department, the police chief’s minimum salary increased from $136,000 to $180,000 and the maximum salary increased from $200,000 to $210,000; a police captain’s minimum salary increased from $123,000 to $150,000 and the maximum salary was maintained at $190,000.
And, a police lieutenant’s minimum salary increased from $111,000 to $140,000 and the maximum salary increased from $150,000 to $170,000; a police sergeant’s minimum salary was changed to $128,000 and the maximum salary was changed to $150,000 (previously, a senior sergeant was to receive a minimum salary of $100,455 and a maximum salary of $140,000, and a junior sergeant was to receive a minimum salary of $98,000 and a maximum salary of $135,000); and a patrolman’s minimum salary increased from $33,000 to $42,000 and the maximum salary was maintained at $130,000.
Regarding elected officials, a Township Committee member’s minimum salary increased from $8,000 to $9,000, and the mayor, who is an equal member of the governing body and is selected each year by his or her fellow committee members, had a minimum salary increase from $9,000 to $10,000.
The maximum salary of $12,000 for a Township Committee member and the maximum salary of $13,000 for the mayor were unchanged, according to the ordinance.
Other salaries in the ordinance were not changed by the amended ordinance.
