La Mer began as a modest townhouse community in the 1980s, as Kaplan Companies took advantage of a bluff overlooking Cheesequake Park in the Parlin section of Sayreville, a 100-acre tract that obtained wetlands and was a depot for sand that had been stripped away to construct an extension of the New Jersey Turnpike in the 1970s.
Over the years, Kaplan Companies has developed 1,500 units of single-family homes, townhouses and condos. The final portion of the development, an 84-unit townhouse community known as “Overlook at La Mer,” opened in February.
All homes are three-stories tall, with two or three bedrooms, as well as 3-and-a-half bathrooms and finished first-floor dens. All units have two-car garages. Basic models begin at $374,900.
All residents of Overlook at La Mer will have access to a clubhouse, two swimming pools, beach volleyball, tennis and views of Cheesequake Park.
