Three officers join Jackson police force

JACKSON – The Jackson Police Department has welcomed three new members to its ranks. The men took the oath of office during the March 12 meeting of the Township Council.

Robert Gravina, 24, was appointed as a police officer. He was previously employed as a corrections officer with the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Gravina will attend the Ocean County Police Academy and upon graduation will be assigned to a field training officer for additional training before being assigned to a patrol squad for solo patrol, according to police administrators.

Matthew Colangelo, 23, was appointed as a police officer. He previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a Class II special officer with the Union Beach Police Department. Colangelo will be assigned to a field training officer for several months of field training. He will then be assigned to a patrol squad for solo patrol, according to police administrators.

Randall Trasky, 22, was appointed as a Class II special police officer. He previously served as a Class II special officer with the Freehold Township Police Department. Trasky will be assigned to a field training officer for several months of field training. He will be assigned to court security, traffic duties and details, and assist patrol officers as needed, according to police officers as needed.

On Facebook, police administrators said, “We congratulate the officers as they begin their new careers with the Jackson Police Department and would like to thank the mayor, council and administration for their continued support of the police department as the agency grows to serve the growing township, its residents and visitors.”

The police department is staffed with 90 fully sworn officers to serve the 100-square-mile township, its 60,000 residents, businesses and attractions.
