Jamesburg council OKs ordinances for road and sewer repairs

JAMESBURG–The Borough Council approved an ordinance authorizing various improvements for Woodland Road and Front Street.

“We currently have a rotation of streets in the borough that we pave or reconstruct based on my [Department of Public Works] supervisor and my own physical drive through [the] streets. This project rotation ensures that all non-county roads be addressed annually to prioritize the streets that may need work sooner rather than later,” Business Administrator Scott Frueh said during the March 28 council meeting.

According to Frueh, the project is currently just for repaving of the streets. The cost for the improvements is $875,000, according to the council agenda.

“We annually request money from the [New Jersey] Department of Transportation for all our road projects,” Frueh said.

The second and final reading for the ordinance will during the council meeting on April 18, according to Frueh.

“Once the ordinance is adopted our engineering firm will prepare the bid specification and request bids for the project. This usually takes a few months so the project may not even be started until 2019,” he said.

Frueh said the borough puts out bids for all its construction jobs, and workers from the Department of Public Works only do maintenance for the streets such as repairing potholes.

In other news, the council approved and adopted an ordinance authorizing improvements for the sanitary sewer system. The sum for the improvements is $33,073, according to the council agenda.

Frueh said there is not anything specifically wrong with the sewer system.

“We work on the system to ensure that leaks into the system are found and repaired as necessary to keep the amount flow into the main system run by Monroe Township Utility who bills us based on flow,” Frueh said.

In order to pay for the improvements, Frueh said, “[The borough] received funds from the federal Community Development Block Grant through Middlesex County.”

Since the ordinance was approved and adopted, Frueh said the work will be done on a continuous basis throughout the year.

According to Frueh, North American Pipeline company does most of the sewer work, but quotes, if needed, are sent out.
