Fishing event will encourage Old Bridge youth to stay drug-free

For the eighth year, the Old Bridge Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse will sponsor the Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) event in cooperation with the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse; Old Bridge Office of the Mayor; Parks, Recreation and Social Services; Old Bridge Police Department; and Old Bridge Township Public Schools.

Fourth grade students will create a slogan or poem accompanied by a drawing/cartoon
demonstrating how being drug/alcohol/tobacco-free can help them to make good choices in their lives.

Contest winners from the Old Bridge public elementary schools and two parochial schools will be chosen to enjoy a fun-filled day including a prevention lesson from certified HOFNOD instructors from 9 a.m. to noon on June 9 at Cheesequake State Park, 300 Gordon Road, Matawan.

Multiple prevention stations will teach Old Bridge youth tips on how to use fishing and other positive activities to stay substance-free. They will also learn how to bait a hook, cast and when and where to fish.
