Fireworks will burst in the air over Rider University next week, during Lawrence Township’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show.
The fireworks show is set for June 30 on the lawn bordering Centennial Lake in the middle of the Rider University campus. The rain date is July 1.
Fireworks aficionados can begin arriving around 6 p.m. to wait for the fireworks, which will be set off at about 9:25 p.m. Guests may bring a picnic supper or buy food that will be available for purchase.
Entertainment will be provided by Mike Slom with the Suspects beginning at 7:30 p.m. The band play 1980s dance party rock tunes.
The winner of the national anthem contest will sing just before the fireworks begin. This is the second year the contest has been held, said Nancy Bergen, the township’s superintendent of recreation.
Once the fireworks begin, The Bronc, which is Rider University’s student radio station, will play patriotic music.
The fireworks will last between 20 and 25 minutes, Bergen said. This year, some larger shells will be included. D&M Fireworks, which is based in Pennsylvania, will set off the fireworks.
The township’s Recreation Advisory Committee will sell glow sticks to help raise money to offset the cost of the event. About $19,000 has been raised in donations so far and contributions are still coming in, Bergen said.
