The East Brunswick Library has kicked off its annual summer reading program for patrons of all ages.
For children who have completed grades K-5, the summer reading program features a “Libraries Rock” theme. There is a special game board that encourages activities and independent reading. Children who complete their game board are eligible to win prizes.
Special events for children include an interactive family concert with violinist Caryn Lin at 11 a.m. July 20, and a weeklong program teaching kids going into grades 1-3 the Scratch Jr. coding program.
The teen summer reading program focuses on both literacy and participation in library programs. As a special incentive, teens can win tickets to an escape room, book bundles and more. Teen activities include a weekly writers workshop, karaoke parties, and a “summer eating” cooking and book discussion group.
The adult summer reading program for adults encourages them to learn more about the various programs and services the library offers. There will be several prizes throughout the summer.
The library also has several programs for adults throughout the summer. Each week a TED Talk will be viewed and followed up by a group discussion on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. Other highlighted programs include how to use the online reading tracking tool Goodreads at 7 p.m. on July 25 and a music trivia contest at 7 p.m. on Aug. 16.
