OLD BRIDGE – A raccoon tested found in the vicinity of Throckmorton Lane and Pensacola Street has tested positive for rabies.
This is the eighth rabid animal reported in Middlesex County during 2018 and the first rabid animal in Old Bridge, according to information provided by the Middlesex County Office of Health Services.
On July 21, the animal control officer for Old Bridge responded to a property where a resident’s dog had killed a raccoon, according to the statement. The raccoon was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. It was reported on July 30 that the animal tested positive for rabies.
There is one known human exposure and one domestic animal exposure to the raccoon, according to the statement.
