The purpose of the New Jersey Mission of Honor for the cremains of American veterans is to locate, identify and inter orphaned and abandoned veterans’ cremains.
To provide honor and respect to those individuals who have served the United States in time of peace and conflict is the objective of the New Jersey Mission of Honor, according to a press release from American Legion Post 504, Jackson.
With the cooperation of local funeral homes, the Mission of Honor hopes to identify and inter every orphaned and abandoned veteran in New Jersey, according to the press release.
With the assistance of American Legion Post 504, the 30th New Jersey Mission of Honor ceremony will be held on Sept. 13 to honor nine veterans who served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force during World War I, World War II and Korea, and during peacetime.
The New Jersey Mission of Honor has located these veterans with the cooperation of funeral directors from the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, Jackson, the DeMarco Funeral Home, Monroe Township, and the DuBois Funeral Home, Audubon, according to the press release.
The George S. Hassler Funeral Home will host the ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13. At noon, a motorcade will depart from the funeral home with a police escort en route to the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. At 1:30 p.m., a committal service will take place, according to the press release.
Representatives of veterans organizations, along with state, county and local dignitaries, veterans and members of the public are expected to attend the ceremonies, according to the organizers.
