An office building at 1800 American Boulevard at the Princeton Place at Hopewell office park, off Scotch Road, was evacuated for about 90 minutes on Sept. 18 while police and firefighters investigated a possible hazardous substance that fell out of an envelope, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.
An employee at Cenlar FSB opened an envelope that contained a small amount of an unknown powdery substance shortly before 11 a.m., police said.
Police and firefighters responded after an employee pulled a fire alarm station, and evacuated the building. The employees took shelter in an attached parking garage while first responders investigated.
The Trenton Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit was called in at the request of Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Chief Matthew Martin, police said. After the hazmat unit determined the powder was not hazardous, employees were allowed back into the building around 12:30 p.m.
The Pennington Fire Co. responded to the scene, in addition to the Trenton Fire Department, the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Unit and the Hopewell Township Police Department.
